Jacqueline L.
– Washington D.C. Unit Administrator & Assistant Director for SPI Jacqueline is a native Virginian born on Gallows Road (named after an actual
gallows). She has a B.A. in Psychology, an M.S. in Social Work and a M.S. in
Human Resources. Her passion is researching and writing about haunted,
historical sites, especially Civil War sites. She is the author of "The Haunted
Traveler", a travel guide of haunted and historical places throughout the world.
Jackie uses skills from her former career as a therapist to interview clients
and assess situations. Jackie has lived in Maryland, Philadelphia, New Orleans
and Dallas; in addition she has traveled to haunted castles in Ireland. Jackie
is a member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the Institute of
Noetic Sciences, and various local historical societies.
Michelle L. aka “Spooky Chic” – Paranormal Investigator,
East Coast Region
Michelle is passionate about the paranormal and brings to
SPI expertise in locating haunted sites and taking spirit photography. Michelle
has a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in the health sciences. Michelle
brings her enthusiasm and professionalism to the D.C. SPI Unit.


Want to spend the evening in a haunted, historical house?
Landon House, a privately owned, historic mansion is now
available for private groups to spend an evening ghost hunting. The house was
investigated by SPI and was found to have genuine paranormal activity by our
strict standards. Landon House was owned by Civil War Confederate General Jeb
Stuart. The house was used as a hospital during the Civil War. Both Confederate
and Union troops were treated in the house. On a wall in the dining room are
drawings of Jefferson Davis and Lincoln drawn by the injured soldiers. Landon
House is located in Urbana, MD just south of Frederick, MD and about one hour

tragically in a duel. Many ghostly
apparitions have been sighted by staff.
There is a heavy feeling of sadness in
the room on the first floor where Stephen
Decatur died. |
 | The White House
(202) 208-1631. The Lincoln bedroom is
reportedly haunted. Contact your local
congress representative prior to your
trip to get you passes. Otherwise, you
will have to stand on a long line and
wait hours. |
 | Fort McNair, 4th
St. S.W. Where the Lincoln assassination,
co-conspirators where imprisoned and
hanged. There have been sightings of on
of the conspirators, Mary Surratt.

Harry Truman complained of ghosts when he
lived in the Blair House while the White
House was being renovated during the
1940's. |

many reports from the Capitol Police of
unexplained activity. |
 | Stephen Decatur's
House - Stephen Decatur died from
injuries received in a dual at the
Bladensburg Dueling Grounds. He died on
the ground floor of the house. Staff
report many apparition sightings. |
 | The Octagon House.
Now used by the Association of
Architects. A young girl died by jumping
off or falling over the stair railing and
falling to her death. House filled with
unexplained activity today. |
 | The Exorcist Steps
- located on M street in Georgetown
across from the Key Bridge next to a gas

steps from Prospect Street near
Georgetown University. Filming site of
the movie "The Exorcist." House at the
top of the stairs was used in the movie. |
 | The Old Stone

haunted building in D.C. Mysteriously, a
rolling pin rolls off the cupboard and
lands in the middle of the kitchen floor
without disrupting any dishes in it's

Haunted Sites Investigated in Maryland
 | Landon House, a
privately owned, historic mansion was
investigated by the Society for
Paranormal Investigation and was found to
have paranormal activity. Landon House
was visited by Civil War Confederate

playing, and rolling canon balls are just
some of the ghostly activity

Antietam Battlefield was the
site of the bloodiest battle of the Civil
War. 20,000 people died at this battle that
ended after three days in September 1862 as a
draw. Today silhouettes spirit soldiers still
appear across the open corn fields.

The Haunted Hager House.
Hagerstown, MD. Open to the public and offers
ghost tours at Halloween.

Burkettsville, MD is the
alleged site of the Blair Witch, however the
movie wasfilmed in Seneca, MD. Burkettsville
is a small, historic town with a cemetery
and a church that was used as a hospital for
wounded and dying Civil War troops in route
to Antietam.
 | White's Ferry and
Edward's Ferry, Poolesville, MD. Used as
a crossing point by the Confederates
between VA and MD. Site of small
skirmishes. |
 | Hyattstown, MD
offers thick woods that was the site of a
skirmish between Jeb Stuart's troops and
the Union Army on the way to Antietam.
The wounded and dying from this battle
were treated at Landon House. |
 | Point Lookout, St.
Mary's. Previous site of a confederate
prison. Ghosts of these rebels continue
to be seen today. |

Haunted Ft. Washington, Oxon
Hill, MD. This historic fort was built for
the War of 1812 but was never fired upon. It
was used again during the Civil War to guard
D.C. Despite it's lack of war activity a
ghost roams this massive, forgotten fort.
 | The Surratt House,
Clinton, MD. Mary Surratt was found
guilty of conspiracy for the
assassination of President Lincoln. She
was executed by hanging at the at Ft.
McNair in D.C. Mary ran this tavern with
her son in rural Maryland. Many still
defend her innocence today, believing
women would not have been privy to such
political activism in the 1800's. A
spirit is restless at the Surratt House
today. Tours of John Wilkes Booth escape
route through southern Maryland and into
VA are available from this site. Visit
and decide for yourself if Mary was
guilty or innocent. Mary Surratt is
buried at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. |

 | Clara Barton House,
Glen Echo, MD. Clara Barton was a nurse
during the Civil War and was the founder
of the Red Cross. Her beautiful house in
historic Glen Echo is reportedly haunted.

Glenn, Linden Lane, Silver Spring, MD -
check out his historic site before the
developers destroy the gothic beauty of
this complex. Site of Confederate troops
during the Civil War. |
 | Needwood Mansion ,
Rockville, MD. Historic plantation with
reported haunted activity by possible
past owners and slaves. |
 | Bealle-Dawson
House, Rockville, MD. Located in the
historic section of Rockville, this
pre-civil war house witnessed the
encampment of General Jeb Stuart's
Confederate troops in Rockville and the
invasion of General George McClellan's
Union Army. McClellan spent the night in
the house. The house is haunted and
offers ghost tours every Halloween. Also
open to the public year round. |

Historic and haunted sailing vessel used
in the Civil War, WWII and in fighting
the slave trade. This magnificent ship is
docked at the inner harbor in downtown
Baltimore. Ask one of the period dressed
sailors to tell you a ghost story.

 | US Submarine Yorsk
(1944) 802 South Caroline St. Baltimore,

Baltimore Maritime Museum, this historic
submarine fought in WWII. Not reportedly
haunted, but a really cool tour.

Museum is it's location. Edgar Allen Poe
is a famous Baltimore resident with a

Haunted Sites Investigated in Virginia
Balls Bluff Cemetery -
Haunted. Located on Rt. 15 North of
Leesburg, (now in the middle of a subdivision
of new houses thanks to greedy developers in
Loudon County). This cemetery is all that
remains of a deadly battle during the Civil
War in October, 1861. The cemetery is
reportedly haunted. Ghosts of soldiers have
been sighted here.
Woodlawn Plantation

Very haunted, just ask the staff. Doors open
and close on their own, furniture moves
around in the middle of the night.
Manassas National
Battlefield, Manassas, VA. Site of one of the
most prominent battles of the Civil War.
Gadsby’s Tavern (1770)

dressed staff serve traditional colonial fare
at this historic and haunted tavern.
Hollywood Cemetery,
Cherry & Albemarle Streets. Famous Civil War
heroes buried here along with a famous
warlock. Many tales of haunting at this site.
